| STAN GOODALL A SHORT BIOGRAPHY |
Going back more years than I care to remember, hockey has been the passion of my life. Starting at an early age, hockey equipment was the standard fare at Christmas time, and the first freezing of the pond was anticipated with excitement. Through all the minor hockey years, the dream of the NHL was always present, but around age 17, reality set in and I switched emphasis from playing the game to refereeing the game.
Several years of coaching at the beginner's level and it seemed that hockey was all over; however, at this time, TV was coming on the scene and the passion continued with Hockey Night in Canada. That was it for a period of ten years at which time I laced up the skates again as a pre- mature old-timer. The excitement of the game was still present more
than ever.Around this time, Glen came on the scene. I am guilty! He was going to be a hockey player and he had his first skates as soon as he could walk. By age 3 or 4 we had our first back-yard rink which continued to grow year by year. It was during this time that I started collecting hockey
tips. If the analyst for Hockey Night in Canada said"Do this," I would jot it down and throw the slip of paper in a box. I collected hockey tips as some people collected match boxes or coins. Not only from Hockey Night in Canada; but, from just about every hockey book that has been written, the 'hot' tips accumulated, and are presently in excess of 2,500 tips. Enough to keep any youngster going for quite awhile.Being computer literate, these tips eventually found their way into a database, and now the database is being used for a series topics on CD ROM. It is a labor of love, not of expectation.
Knowing the basic requirement of kids, (or adults for that matter) - they always want to know the Why? before they will have any motivation to do anything - my approach to hockey has always been: What works? Why does it work? and, How can we make it work? It has been a great journey and it is not over yet. There is always some new trick, some new strategy to try. Hockey is a dynamic game, always exciting, never boring.
